Nook - Brand Identity for a Cozy Neighbourhood Café - Concept Project

Nook is a café concept built around the idea of belonging - a place where people slow down, exhale and feel like being at home. The goal was to create a warm, playful and recognizable identity that works across every touchpoint, from a paper cup to a loyalty card to a tee you'd actually want to wear.
Generic coffee shop aesthetics are everywhere - chalkboards, kraft paper, predictable neutrals. Nook needed to feel genuinely warm and personal without blending in. Playful without losing credibility. Every element had to feel intentional, not decorative.
Character over trend. Instead of following what coffee shop branding looks like right now, the system is built on a hand-drawn illustration, expressive typography and a restrained warm palette that creates a world people recognize before they read the name.
The result is a brand that feels lived-in and human - because it is.The wordmark uses Beth Ellen - a handwritten script that feels personal and unhurried, reflecting the café's core promise of slowing down. The brand character, a figure at rest with a coffee cup, anchors the identity with warmth and a quiet sense of humor. Together they form a system that is immediately recognizable across print, packaging and digital applications.
#1c1917 - Deep espresso. Grounding, strong, confident.

#f2ede4 - Soft cream. The dominant background tone, light and calm.
A palette that references the physical world of coffee without being literal. Warm, cohesive and designed to work across print, digital and merchandise.Beth Ellen - Logo, headlines & brand character
Poppins - Supporting text, menus & structured content
Chosen for the contrast between warmth and clarity. Beth Ellen brings personality and handmade feel, Poppins keeps the system legible and functional across all formats. The final identity captures exactly what Nook set out to be - a place that feels personal from the first paper cup to the last sip. The warmth of the hand-drawn wordmark, the quiet character of the brand illustration, and a palette pulled straight from coffee itself come together into a system that's instantly recognizable and genuinely inviting, across every touchpoint from packaging to merch.
